About the exhibition

The organizer of the exhibition »Women of Mathematics throught Europe - A Gallery of portaits« is the Committee for Women at the Society of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers of Slovenia. The Committee is committed to promoting the study of mathematics, physics and astronomy among girls and women, and is working to preserve the historical memory of the achievements of women scientists. That is why the exhibition, where you will be able to get a closer look at the thoughts of 20 selected mathematicians from Europe, is related to May 12, which was set in 2018 in Rio De Janeiro to celebrate women in mathematics. On this day, Maryam Mirzakhani, an Iranian mathematician and professor of mathematics at Stanford University, was born in 1977. Despite her early death due to illness, Professor Mirzakhani was one of the world’s leading experts in geometry and dynamical systems, for her work she received the highest award in mathematical science in 2014 - the Fields Medal.
